Introduction

Quincy B. Scovill, spokesperson and resident Florida hippie madman has formed an estranged musical anomaly with Anastasia V. Romanov, bassist for Tampa doomster-metallers Peasants of Posture, appropriately named Scovill Avenue. The moniker is derived from a street in Quincy B’s hometown in Northeast Ohio. According to Cleveland legend, was a “very nasty, troublesome area during the 60’s and 70’s. Some parts of the original throughway have since been renamed,” Quincy adds.
Scovill Avenue, according to Quincy B, draws on his affinity for R & B, funkadelic, old school rap and Hip Hop, and Motown. Welcome to Scovill Avenue is the debut CD on Mad Monk, Ltd, an independent label based in Tampa, Fl. “We’re a blend of many eclectic styles,” he says. “There’s some R& B, hip-hop, funky grooves, dance, , and even a little bit of zany country.” Upon first listen, the songs have a definite groove but exhibit a strong demeanor of rap/hip-hop mixed with hippie-trippy, dancing grooves. Some of the songs currently available on last year’s debut EP are “Old Crooner,” “Big Joplin House”, “The Will of Love,” ‘The Hit-Man’s Happenin’ Hip-Hop Ball, “Scratch-a-various” (which features a zany violin player named Freddie D), and “I Knew a Somebody (Who Once Got Shot).” The new full-length cd, yet untitled and scheduled for release in spring 2008, will feature remixes of the aforementioned songs and new songs like “Rap the Ripper”, “Burn”, “Psycho-Pain”, “Money Fer Nuttin’”, “Who Killed Cock Robin,” “It’s a Matter of Black,”“Breakthrough”,  “I Wanna Get you (High),” “Hippies on Dope”, THMHHAGBBRTSSSB”, “Tomorrow Night”, and a ingenious cover of Dr. John’s “Right Place, Wrong Time”.

“When Anastasia and I first got together, she had some idea which were originally slated for POP,” Quincy B explains – “Especially ‘Bloody Valentine’ and ‘Dancing Macabre’and, realistically, these songs may eventually be POP or Blind Granny (Quincy B’s industrial/dance/house project, also signed to Mad Monk, Ltd) tunes,” Anastasia explains. “Of course, I’m working with most of the POP members. It’s just a different outlet for all of us.” In addition to core members of Scovill Avenue such as Josef Trotsky, Nikita Nicole, Step N Fetch, Komrade Krushchev, other area musicians join in for an occasional guest spot. Key Low D (2nd Day Crush),  Sugar Sweet Sadie, Berkeley Bobby Koelbe (Junkie Rush), , Jody Gray, Jun Bustamonte, Johnny Cash, and local singer/songwriters Lorna Bracewell, Deb Hunsedder, and Lexi Pierson
“And don’t forget that slimy little croaker Froggy MC,” reminds Quincy B. “He’ll get really upset if we don’t mention his name. He’s got quite an ego, you know.”
Does Anastasia’s commitment to Scovill Avenue take away from her creative time with Peasants of Posture?
“Scovill Avenue actually keeps me busy, “she says. “Quincy B is just as crazy as (POP vocalist) Thomas E. Rasptuin and just as creative. I mean, we’re still churning out grungier, hard-hitting tunes. We’re still in the preproduction stages for the new POP cd (titled “Foolin’ at the World” and scheduled for release summer 2008) so I have some time to rehearse with Quincy B and the boys.”
“Scovill Avenue is something I always wanted to do. I love 60’s and 70’s styled hippie grooves. You can hear some of that influence in the new POP songs. I’ve been listening to plenty of House and Club music lately…Lords of Acid, Skinny Puppy, Ministry…stuff like that,” Anastasia confesses. “Some of the new POP tunes – like, say, “Questions” and “Down with the Ship” have that industrial groovy edge. Scovill Avenue is more basic grooves and funky rhythm stuff.” Anastasia points out that Scovill Avenue is weirdo trippy/hippie stuff that only a tied-eyed longhair could love.

“We take our influences from Big Brother & Holding Company, Sweetwater, Atomic Rooster, Captain Beyond, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Curved Air…really trippy/hippy rock stuff,” Anastasia confesses, but adds that Scovill Avenue, Blind Granny and Peasants of Posture are separate entities with an unique individual musical prowess. “The Blind Granny stuff is more club and house, where as Scovill Avenue is more funky blues and Hip-Hop.” You can check out a medley of Scovill Avenue tunes at www.scovillavenue.com or www.myspace.com/scovilleavenue. Blind Granny tunes can be heard at www.blindgranny.com or www.myspace.com/blindgranny. Simply email Quincy or Anastasia and let ‘em know you care! You’ll be glad you did!

Ricky Parent

The Peasants are sad to report that long-time band friend, Ricky Parent, passed away after a long battlre with cancer Saturday, October 27, 2007. Ricky was  a personal friend of POP vocalist Thomas E. Rasputin for many years. “I am deeply saddedned by his passing,” says Rasptuin. Parent, drummer for Chicago-based Enuff Z’nuff, was a big fan of POP. “We were planning on having him gust on a few tracxks for the new cd but he was very sick. His family (currently living in Florida) , friends, and those close to him were great supporters. It saddens me to even talk about nit, “ Rasputin adds. POP also are big Enuff Z’nuff fans and Rasputin and Enuff Z’Nuff bassist Chip Z’nuff cowrote “Nobody’s son”, a boinus track on CounterRevolution. In Leau of flowers, Ricky's family asks that donations be sent to Sloan Kettering Medical Center in Ricky's name. For further information, please contact:

We’ll Miss You, Dear Friend, part I

Peasants are sad to report the passing of Tampa-based producer/engineer Greg “G” Marshak. Greg was a phenomenal recording engineer and was a huge fan of POP’s heavy hitting sounds and vibe. “G had an incredible ear and was a top-notch engineer and producer. He mastered a few POP tunes which didn’t make the first CD. He was a true friend of the band. He’ll be sorely missed,” laments POP guitarist Prince Felix.

Too Sharpe Sharpe

It’s no secret that POP producer Quincy B. Scovill is a huge Boxing fan (and an ex-fighter) and is friends with local professional fighter Ricky “Too Sharpe” Thompson. Quincy B is currently writing an anthem for “Too Sharp” that “will scare the heck out of opponents! Ricky is a good guy and a great fighter and we’re really looking forward to great things from him next year! He’ll be champ some day, believe me!” Keep an eye for the song “Too Sharp, Too Sharp” in early 2008!

BLIND GRANNY

It is rumored that Anastasia V. Romanov also is working on yet another side project with Scovill Avenue alumnus Nicole Nikita and longtime Russian friend Grand Duchess Maria Federova called Blind Granny. This new outfit, according to Nicole, blends the sounds of Latin percussion, Hip-Hop, Dance and good old fashion Miami House but has the raw, darkness which is a signature sound and playing style. “Maria really adds the soulful edge that Scovill has been missing in earlier recordings,” adds Quincy B. “She’s an old friend of Anastasia from the Russian Royal Court.” It also is rumored that the infamous Johnny “DS”Cash will make a guest appearance on the song “Quincy B’s Happenin Hip-Hop Ho-Down” (Johnny also appears on Scovill Avenue’s debut cd Welcome to Scovill Avenue.). “Johnny’s schedule is difficult,” explains Nicole. For obvious reasons, of course. Blind Granny is currently searching for a female lead vocalist to sing on some tunes. Interested parties should contact Quincy B at quincyb@scovillavenue.com or www.myspace.com/blindgranny or www.blindgranny.com for more information.

December 22 - Sing-A-Long With Annie!  Finally, after years of unsuccessful
coaxing and arm-twisting, Quincy B has finally convinved Anastasia V.
Romanov to sing! She's agreed to sing Scovill Avenue's "Sins of the World"
(preview available at www.myspace.com/scovilleavenue and also has written
lyrics. "Anastasia has a great, angelic operatic voice," adds Quincy B. "She
and Nicole (Nikita) will layer their respective vocals on some of the new
material. "Sins of the World" is a really great tune and definitey could use
a women's touch. In related news, Anastasia also has agreed to sing on the
new Peasants of Posture  cd, specifically, "Yugoslavia", a tune which
features acoustic guitar and a heavy backbeat. Again, you can hear an
instrumental preview at www.myspace.com/rasputinmadmonk. Does this indicate
that Anastasia is replacing both Quincy B Scovill and Thomas E. Rasputin?
"Naw, ain't happenin' yet," says Quincy B. "Anastasia really doesn't like to
sing..she likes playing bass. Besides, with gals like Amy Lee, Tara Turunen
(NIGHTWISH) and Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil), Anastasia can't even begin
to compare! Always check out the group's myspace account for news, updates,
and previews of upcoming songs.

December 21 – NAME THAT TUNE? Here’s a listing of the songs on the Scovill Avenue Medley that plays throughout the website: “Message from Johnny,” “Money Fer NUttin’ (instrumental), “The Hit-Man’s Happenin’ Hip Hop Ball,” “Scratch-a-Various,” ‘The Will of Love,” “We’re the Same (instrumental),” “Desire (instrumental)”, “Dancing Macabre (instrumental)”, “Bloody Valentine (instrumental)”, “Prison Break,” “Big House”, and “Sins of the World” instrumental. The instrumental tunes are new songs and an indication of the direction that Scovill Avenue is heading towards with the next release. “Sins of the World” is probably my favorite track,” confesses Quincy B. “It’s really upbeat and very lightweight but still powerful.” Enjoy the edley and feel free comment an the new material at quincyb@scovillavenue.com.

December 20 – SING ALONG WITH QUINCY! Celebrating the release of both Welcome to Scovill Avenue and Peasants of Posture’s CounterRevolution, Quincy B. Scovill is hurridly arranging the material for the new Scovill Avenue CD, tentively titled Sins of the World”. “The Peasants have asked me to co-produce the next POP CD (Quincy B produced CounterRevolution) and I’m honored that they asked me to help out!” Quincy says that some of the new songs for the next Scovill Avenue CD are “scattered about in the opening musical medley of www.scovillavenue.com”. Some of the tunes  are “Money fer Nuttin’”, “We’re the Same”, “Desire,””Dancing Macabre,” “Bloody Valentine,” and the title track “Sins of the World”. A rough mix of “Sins is already on www.myspace.com/scovilleavenue. The new material is more dance and house-based…there’s some industrial trance but it will still have the Scovill Avenue humor and cutting edge.” Will Johnny you-know-who return for another ghostly encounter? “That’s a good question, “comments Quincy B. “It’s very possible…we’re probably going to steal Adrianne (Gonzales) to sing for us..she did a great job on POP’s “Lamb of God” and “Foolin’ at the World” plus some other stuff.” Quincy demands you go to www.adrimusic.com “or else…” Of course, Quincy insists that Josef Trotsky, Nicole Nikita, Step N Fetch, Komrade Krushcev, and Froggy MC will be back as well. “Anastasia, Step, and Nicole are going to make a guest appearance in the “Lamb of God” video next month,” Quincy B points out. For more information on the “Lamb of God” video shoot, go to www.peasantsofposture.com. Any plans to shoot a video for "Big House”? Not yet…besides, we should include Johnny. After all, he was our inspiration!

December 15 – WELCOME TO SCOVILL AVENUE! – Qunicy B and Anastasia have decided to release the debut CD on CD-Baby. “The Welcome to Scovill Avenue CD that was released this week is some old material, with the exception of “Big House” and “Prison Break” which will appear on the new cd later this year,” says Anastasia V. Romanov. “Tunes like The Will of Love, Hit-Ball, and Scratch-a-various” are original demos from days gone-by that were ‘spiced-up by Quincy B,” she adds, indicating that the aforementioned older material will be rerecorded for the new cd. The Peasants of Posture tune “god of War” was slated for the new Scovill Avenue CD later this year,” she adds. “But we decided to release it on CounterRevolution because we couldn’t legally release our cover of “Give Peace a Chance” (a brilliant rendition of the John Lennon song which, according to Anastasia, will “never see the light of day.”). Track listing includes “Prison Break,” “Big House,” “Hit-Man’s Happenin’ Hip Hop Ball,” “Scratch-a-various”, “The Will of Love”, and “Mistakin’ Identity”. “This CD will whett our fans’ appetites until the new release is available later this year,” Anastasia admits. “We’ll have an official CD-release party – probably at Pro Star Studios in St. Petersburg, say, around January or February, so stay tuned!”

December 10, 2006 – POSITIVE RESPNSE IN DA BIG HOUSE! Heavy peasant shouts to Jordan Hart from St. Petersburg, Fl-based outfit Positive Response for taking the time to hang with the peasants during Fade Magazine’s launch party last evening. “We really dig Jordan’s vibe and creativity and want him to guest DJ on some upcoming POP and Scovill Avenue tracks.” There are rumors that a club-mix of POP’s “Lamb of God” and Sovill Avenue’s “Big House”is in the works. “Well, if we got the time, we’d love to hear what Positive Response can do with that song,” Anastasia adds. “They got a cool demeanor and would be perfect to interpret both POP and Scovill Avenue. Check out Positive Response at http://www.myspace.com/positiveresponse. Tell ‘em Quincy B and Johnny sent ya!

December 5, 2006 – WELCOME TO SCOVILL AVENUE! Quincy B. Scovill,  POP Producer and musical partner of POP bassist Anastasia V. Romanov, is set to release the debut EP CD from Scovill Avenue January 1. The six song EP, titled “Welcome to Scovill Avenue”, features older Scovill Material recently remixed and redited by Quincy B and Anastasia. “It’s definitely some older material,” confesses Anastasia. “But Quincy and I decided that we should release something before so our fans have at least something before the new cd is released.” Tracks include “Big House, “Hit-Man’s Happenin’ Hip-Hop Ball,” “Scratch-a-various,” “Mistaken Identity,”  “The Will of Love”, and “God of War (remix)”

December 2, 2006HERE’S JOHNNY! “I went to shake his hand, and it went right through him!” That’s what Quincy B Scovill said when Johnny showed up at ProStar Studios in St. Petersburg to sing the introduction to “Big House”. Rumors from both POP and Scovill Avenue Camps abound about the resurrection of the legendary Johnny Cash. “I swear to you, I have no idea what’s going on,” Anastasia V. Romanov brashly confesses. “I hear those rumors as well. What is most astounding is the Scovill Avenue recordings with Johnny’s voice. It’s haunting. He’s really a friend of Quincy B Scovill. Or is he? I thought he was dead. Quincy B won’t give me any information.” Check out “A Message from Johnny” at www.myspace.com/scovilleavenue and see (or, more appropriately, hear, for yourself.

November 29CROAKIN’ DA BLUES! The enigmatic, wild and green slimed crawler Froggy MC was recently bellyaching about being omitted from the band’s recent photoshoot. “He’s always complaining,” Anastasia points out. “He was informed about the photoshoot but opted to hang-out at the midget-golf putt-putt tournament instead. Look for Froggy to appear on the song “Desire” on the new Scovill Avenue CD due in 2007. “Froggy is scareed of ghosts,” adds Quincy B. He’s really avoiding an encounter with Johnny.

October 2, 2006 – JOHNNY CASH TO PERFORM WITH SCOVILL AVENUE! There’s always strange rumors circulating around the Scovill Avenue gossip mill. Quincy B. Scovill insists that he, through secret, macabre and paranormal “negotiations”, successfully contacted the spirit of Johnny Cash. Even more bizarre is that Mr. Cash has more or less agreed sing the opening number on the upcoming Scovill Avenue CD “Welcome to Scovill Avenue”. “I’ve heard this rumor as well,” muses Anastasia V. Romanov, bassist and front person of Scovill Avenue. “Quincy B assures me it’s true. He’s not one to fabricate such things. I find it very difficult to swallow but we’ll just wait and see.”

September 30, 2006 – ADRIANE ROCKS! The sultry, captivating, and enchanting vocals of Florida-born/LA-based musician/songwriter Adrianne will grace the song “Bloody Valentine”.

“Adrianne was in town for a few gigs last month,” explains Anastasia V. Romanov.  She’s a friend of both ProStar Studio and (St. Petersburg songwriter/singer )Lorna Bracewell. We really dig Adrianne’s vibe and voice. After hearing “No Braver Thing” on her new cd, we had to have her sing with us!”  Her singing style is really unique and adds some much-needed flavoring to the song. ‘Adrianne also sang ad-libs on Peasants of Posture songs “Lamb of God’ and ‘Fooling at the World.’” Anastasia adds. “She’s real pro and a very cool gal. Though her music is more melodic and definitely not as crazy as what we do, she really had a good time and sang her heart out!”

Both Anastasia and Quincy B. Scovill insist that you check out Adrianne’s web-site www.adrimusic.com and grab a copy of her new CD “Sweet Mistake”. “She’s currently touring the country playing in small clubs and coffeehouses. Make sure you see her ‘cos I guarantee this will probably be the last time you’ll see her playing in such an intimate setting. She’s poised to be something really big! We can’t say enough good things about her!”

September 16, 2006 – DON’T STOP! DON’T STOP! PLEASE! Quincy B Scovill, aka “The Hit-Man”, is commemorating the 25th (or 24th …he really can’t remember) anniversary of the Thomas Hearns-Sugar Ray Leonard fight. Quincy B’s childhood idol was none other than Thomas  “Hitman” Hearns. Quincy B was an amateur fighter and was nicknamed “The Hit-Man” because his style was similar to Hearns. “He was taller and hit much harder,” confesses Quincy B. “Ah still can’t believe they stopped that fight!” The rematch eight years later was a controversial draw. “”Ah always will be a big Tommy Hearns fan, Quincy B admits. “Ah jes’ wish he’s stop fightin’ and hang out at Scovill Avenue!”

August 28, 2006QUINCY B IN PROFESSOR GRIFF VIDEO!
